Owney has arrived safely at St. Michael School in Baltimore Maryland. We will send another email in the next few days about what he has been doing with our 2nd graders. I know that he will be joining the 2nd graders at Lunch with Santa on Saturday afternoon.

Dear Friends of Owney,
Owney arrived from Ohio last week and now is on his way to Arkansas.  My 4th graders enjoyed his visit as well as all the activites we did to celebrate! We ended his visit with a trip to the Post Office, tour, and finally sending him on.  Enjoy!  And thank you to the organizers of this project.  We have learned so much through this fun activity.

Owney finally arrived on Tuesday of this week.  He's apparently a slow mover.  He had a very busy day here.  Our class had Dog Math, Dog Reading,
Dog Writing, Dog Science, a Dog Movie, and the very favorite:  Dog Recess!

Owney is now on his way back to Missouri.  We'll send out our postcards later.

Owney has left Missouri and is headed to his next classroom.  He was sent out on Friday, and should be arriving at his next stop by the middle of the week.  I will email that teacher tonight to let her know that he is on the way.
We enjoyed having him visit.

Owney arrived on the 19th.  I waited until the 27th to mail him out because I did not want him to get lost over Thanksgiving.  He should arrive in Arkansas soon.  Interesting note:  During Owney’s visit we found out that our art teacher’s grandfather worked as detective for the US postal Service in the 1880’s.  She remembers him telling her that he once traveled around the world with a famous little dog.  We think it must have been Owney!

Well, Owney arrived safely at Ute Pass Elementary, just before the Winter Break.  Owney had fun at our school and we even had a party with all of our stuffed animal friends.  Owney got all tired out and was ready to move on to California.  Look for our postcards, soon!

Dear Friends of Owney,

Owney arrived in sunny California during our winter break.  When we returned to school we read the stories written about Owney and watched the video from the old Animal Planet, Animal Legends.  We looked at the pins Owney was wearing and the things others have put in his box.
We talked about how all the states are so different.  We talked about how many states have snow in the winter.  It’s difficult for students in southern California to learn about winter.  We don’t have snow here at all.  Sometimes it gets “cold” and we have to wear jackets, but usually that weather pattern lasts for a few days and then we get back to our usual warm and sunny days.  Today the news is full of “storm watch” reports about the rain.  It is expected to rain a lot this week and we’re not ready for it.  The biggest problem is that many areas nearby have had fires and so there aren’t plants and trees left with their roots to hold the soil in place.  We may have mud slides.
We talked about how most students in our area have been to the places tourists come to California to see.  Every student in this class has been to the beach.  The famous beaches of Malibu are just about 20 minutes to the south of us and there are other beaches even closer where we like to lie in the sun, build sand castles, and watch the surfers.  We can look up at the mountains and sometimes see snow on the peaks as we come to school.  We can drive a few hours so to see the Mojave Desert.  There are famous amusement parks like Universal Studios Hollywood, Knott’s Berry Farm, and Six Flags Magic Mountain are close enough to go for the day.  Every student in our class has been to Disneyland.

On Saturday Mrs. Adams took
Owney to Universal Studios where he “walked”
the red carpet and even met Dora the Explorer.

“SMILING STUDENTS” AS OWNEY ARRIVES ON
MAUI!

Aloha from Kula, Maui! I just arrived at Kula Elementary School, a K-5 school located in "Upcountry" Maui, on the slopes of Haleakala Crater, (meaning "House of the Sun"). What a sight to see as the school sits on 14 acres of beautiful countryside offering a panoramic view of the coastline, towns and cane fields below. There are 19 students in Mrs. Jensen’s First Grade class. It was a busy few days as I went on a tour of the campus and visited several different classrooms. We scored high marks on FastMath in the computer lab and worked with Kumu Kaui in Hawaiian Studies. We even baked some yummy "paw print" cookies for a morning snack. On my last day, the class created poems all about me! Maui No Kai Oi! (Maui Is the Best!) Aloha from Owney and Friends at Kula Elementary
