Mrs. Granger's Fifth Grade

Puffer a black and white cat

Hello,

I want to welcome you to our Fifth Grade. We will many new friends and worked together improving skills in Reading, Writing, and Mathematics. Our class will also explore new ideas in Science, Social Studies and Health.

Computers are used to communicate with parents and friends. We type, draw, take pictures, make web pages, and movies using our computer.

One of my younger classes in the past created 2 movies that show how we do science experiments (Ramps - Levers). They load slowly, but they let you see us work. We took turns doing taping, editing and experimenting. I hope you will want to make more videos in the future.

We learn a lot about our country, The United States of America in fifth grade. Maybe we can find new ways to share this information with our schoolmates and parents.

We are participating in two Owney the Traveling Dog Projects this year.

One project will have Owney go to all 50 states. He only stays at the school for a day. We send postcards to each school he visits and they send one to us. We may have 50 postcards when we are done.

The other group will have Owney visits to fewer states but each school get to have Owney stay longer. We write more often to the schools in those states.

It will be fun to learn about schools and children from all around the United States.

Owney and his Treasures

My classes have also perform many times on stage. We share our talents with our school members, parents and the community. We usually start with A Thanksgiving Celebration. We may also performed 'Song and Poems of the Season' at the Plant Memorial Home for the residents in December. Many of our performances was taped an shown on Bath Cable TV. Thank you Steve Marois for taping our performances.

In the spring, we will perform a musical. Sometimes we write our own play and other times we adapt a play or part of a play to suit our needs.   The play takes place around the gym and on the stage. The class with the help of volunteers like Mrs. Vicki Moriarty creates scenery.
