Classroom Assessments
Vocabulary

1. Describe the motion of objects using knowledge of Newton's Laws.

Students should have a basic understanding of Newton's Laws of motion and their effect on living and nonliving objects.

Students partake in Roller Coaster Interacts unit.

Use of ProbeWare to demonstration laws.

Students use various toys to demonstrate laws of motion.
Balloon cars
CD cars

Students use performance activities materials in Interacts unit and Toys in Space to demonstrate the three laws of motion.

Final assessment: Students create a roller coaster demonstrating learned concepts

inertia momentum
centripital force
acceleration
force
mass
acceleration
action vs. reaction

2. Use mathematics to describe the motion of objects (e.g., speed, distance, time, acceleration).

Basic understanding of mathematics and manipulation of variables.

Students need to know how to apply D=R.T

F=M.A

Students conduct various labs that require data collection. See Interacts Unit,

Students collect data and graph various forms of speed

Students are graded on lab reports and correct graphing and calculations.

rate of speed
acceleration (+-)
