Students will gain knowledge about the earth and the processes that
change it.
Common Assessment(s): Soil Report: Compiled from fast water in ground/dirt chapter
Students will be able to: 2. Describe how soils are formed and
why soils differ from one place to another. Identify the 7 contributors of soil
creation: wind, water, ice, acid rain, surf, glacier, plant,
animal. Identify 5 components of soil: sand,
silt, clay, organic matter, gravel. Students will complete "Dirt Balls",

shake jar as outlined in Soil Test B & C of FAST

Textbook # C, page 173 4. Describe factors that can cause
short-term and long-term changes to the earth. See 2 above. Describe the effects of major earth
changes: storms, earthquakes, volcanoes, landslides, global
warming, clear cutting. Demonstration of erosion through
grinding of stones and collection of debris. Student will write a short essay
explaining the demonstration and results and where in nature

flow of groundwater. Show or describe the route water
could/would take within a given set of underground
