Need to know vocabulary: living, nonliving, sort

Need to distinguish between living and nonliving.

Students will brainstorm characteristics of living and nonliving objects, and then will sort objects or pictures into living/nonliving categories.

Field trip to Popham Beach

Given the task of sorting living and nonliving objects or things, students will place objects or pictures in proper categories. Student will explain why and how they categorize objects.

2. Describe characteristics of different living things.

Characteristics of all living and nonliving things

Teacher and student will create a web naming different characteristics of a living things. In subsequent lessons teacher and students will create webs naming characteristic of other living things (animals and plants)

Given an example of a living thing by the teacher students will describe at least 3 characteristics of that living thing.
