Students will develop historical knowledge of major events, people, and enduring themes in the United States, in Maine, and throughout world history.

2. Demonstrate an awareness of major events and people in United States and Maine history	Major events and people should include but not be limited to Columbus Pilgrims George Washington Independence from England Lincoln Civil War and emancipation of slaves Martin Luther King, Jr.			Students will read or listen to biographies of individuals who have made significant contributions to society in different eras. Students will discuss holidays based on these individuals. Students will discuss major events in U.S. and Maine history.	Students will match names and events to their contribution to society.
