Students will discuss strikes, layoffs, and business closings (using newspaper articles as appropriate) and how these affect people's lives in the community. (see also Economics B2)

Students will pretend that BIW has closed and will explain how they think it would affect Bath and the families who live here. (see also Economics B2)

2. Demonstrate an awareness of major events and people in United States and Maine history.

Major events and people should include but not be limited to

  • Maine Native Americans
  • early exploration and settlement of Maine including Popham Colony
  • independence from England
  • Statehood
  • industrialization (timber, shoes, paper, ice, shipbuilding, etc.)
  • Civil War era

Students will make a timeline which includes significant events, groups, and people in Maine and U.S. history (See also History A2)

Given a list of dates and events in Maine and United States history, students will construct an accurate timeline. (See also History A2)
