| BRVC provides the applied academic
instructor. Sending school agrees to award the credit based upon
satisfactory completion of the course. Three credits for the
vocational program are split between two vocational credits and
one academic credit in math, science, English, or social
studies.
Who can enroll?
Any sending school student who has a conflict in scheduling
academic graduation requirements, is enrolled in a vocational
course, and whose sending school agrees to award the credit upon
course completion is eligible to enroll in Applied Academics.
How is it taught?
Instruction is individualized for each student and may be
delivered one-on-one or in small groups. Vocational course
texts, supplementary texts, and computer aided instruction are
utilized.
When is it offered?
Applied Academics is offered during the normal block of time
assigned for the vocational course; typically a 30-minute period
three or more days per week, but each schedule is individualized
depending on the student’s needs and vocational class
activities.
How do I enroll?
Make an appointment with your home school guidance counselor to
discuss your program, credits, and any schedule conflicts. Ask
if taking an academic subject through Applied Academics at BRVC
is possible. Ask about credit that would be awarded. If given
approval by your home school, complete the paper work with the
BRVC Students Services Coordinator.
