Building Construction I & II

3 CREDITS
On-the-job building procedures and techniques allow student the student to learn the use of basic tools, methods, processes, and produces of the building construction industry.

Who can take the Building Construction Program?

Students considering enrolling in this program must:

  • Attend one of the following high schools : Boothbay Region High School, Lincoln Academy, Morse, or Wiscasset

  • Have a genuine interest in Building Construction

What skills do I need to succeed in this program?

Successful students in this program:

  • Have a good attitude

  • Are willing to work

  • Have good attendance at their sending school

  • Are able to listen and follow directions

  • Are able to read and understand technical manuals

  • Are able to do basic math including fractions and decimals

  • Willingness to do homework 

  • Ability to work in a non-classroom environment without supervision

What will I learn in this class?

Students will be responsible for the construction and completion of an on site residential home each year. 

In Building Construction I you will learn:

  • safety

  • trade terminology

  • rough framing

  • exterior sheathing

  • joist and roof framing

  • insulation and installation techniques

  • fascia and soffit installation

  • roofing material application

In Building Construction II you will learn:

  • rough framing

  • interior wall construction

  • door and window installation

  • stair layout

  • cabinet installation

  • drywall application

  • interior finish applications

  • material estimating

How do I enroll in the Building Construction program?

To be accepted in the Building Construction program, you must complete an application and visit the Building Construction program. If the program instructor and your high school recommend you, you will be accepted into the Building Construction program on a space available basis.
