| Word Processing-
1/2 Credit- Either Semester Technology is
here to stay! Computers are everywhere. Word
Processing is a practical course in using a
computer effectively. During the first quarter
you will learn to use the keyboard by touch so
that you won't have to look for each letter.
During the second quarter you'll learn to format
personal and business letters, reports, lists,
and memos using word processing software to
compose, edit and print finished documents. Strongly
recommended for all Freshmen.
Accounting I- 1 Credit- Full Year
Learn to keep accounting records for a small business using a
"hands-on" approach. Analyze transaction, then journalize and
post them, perform end-of-the-year work, including producing
income and balance sheets for both service and merchandising
businesses. Before you know it, you'll be able to do the books
for both sole proprietorships and partnerships. Along with
workbook exercises, you'll complete real-life simulations and
then transfer you accounting knowledge to the computer. You will
also learn to prepare your own tax return. Take this class and
you will get a head start on college accounting course and you
will be qualified to apply for and entry-level job as an
accounting clerk. Recommended for students planning to
study Business Administration in college as well
as students who want to work in the business
field.
Accounting II- 1/2 Credit- First Semester
If you likes Accounting I and did well in it,
you should take Accounting II. Since you've
already successfully completed Accounting I, you
have a jumpstart on this course. Here's an
opportunity for you to expand your knowledge and
understanding of accounting by building on the
concepts you learned in Accounting I. Use a
hands-on approach to learn how to handle
departmentalized accounting, payroll,
depreciation, bad debts, and cost accounting. In
addition to workbook exercises you'll work with
real-life simulations and prepare your own tax
return. You'll also have the opportunity to
transfer your knowledge of manual accounting to
the computer when you work with QuickBooks, a popular
computer accounting program used in small businesses today.
Complete this course and you're ready to enter the world of
accounting--in the business world or a college accounting
program. Students in this class
are strongly recommended to sign up for
Computerized Accounting. PREREQUISITE:
Successful completion of Accounting I.
Business Management- 1/2 credit- 1st
Semester
"Starting your own business." If
you dare to dream about owning a business someday
or studying business administration in college,
this course is for you. Students will learn how
all businesses operate; what makes a small
business successful; how people, money and laws
affect business entrepreneurs. Students will also
visit local merchants to strengthen their
awareness of ownership, as well as writing a
business plan. Hands on application in selling,
buying and advertising is provided through
participation in the FBLA School Store.
Business Law/Economics-
1/2 Credit- 2nd semester
What is economics? How does it affect you
and the world around you? What is your role as a consumer? What
are supply and demand, and what do they mean? Along with
exploring these and other topics, we’ll look at the stock
market, play a stock market game, talk to guest speakers about
how economics contributes to their businesses, and discuss
current economic issues. In the law portion of the class, we’ll
explore legal and ethical issues dealing with contracts,
employment law, and business organizations. Learn how the law
affects you as a person or as an employer. Guest speakers and
field trips will also be included
Banking- 1/2 Credit- 2nd
Semester
Principals of Banking is
offered as a half-year course for juniors and
seniors desiring the knowledge and skills
necessary for entry-level positions as Bank
Tellers. Students are given hands-on experience,
while instruction is offered in various
regulations, policies, and procedures. The
training program is designed to better prepare a
student for a career, future learning and life
after high school.
Banking Lab- 1
Credit- Full Year
The Banking Lab (in the new
vocational wing) is designed to provide the
student with an opportunity to work in an actual
branch of Bath Savings Institution in conjunction
with the banking class throughout the year. The
combination of classroom instruction and
on-the-job training will prepare you to enter the
banking industry as a full-time employee. Must
be enrolled in Banking Class.
