Drafting & Design Technology I & II

2-3 CREDITS PER CLASS
AutoCAD from A-Z; Basic - 3D

Students will receive complete AutoCAD training from basic geometric construction to advanced 3D modeling.  They will become familiar with the AutoCAD interface, to correctly use layering and line-types, create proper text and dimensioning, develop and plot drawings to scale, understand and utilize the X,Y,Z coordinate system, and create 3D and solid models.  A variety of mechanical, architectural, structural and civil drawing will be developed throughout the course.  Upon completion of this course, students will have the skills necessary for an entry-level design/drafting position in industry.

Intro to Engineering

Students will have the opportunity to apply multiple engineering principles to projects developed within class.  Topics will include statics, dynamics, deflection, compression, lift, drag, levers, gears, pulleys, and inclined planes will be covered.  Students will work with wood, plastic, metal, and computer simulations.  They will design structures on a computer and then actually build and test those structures to determine how well they function.  The goal will not only be to solve the problem but to do so in the most efficient and cost-effective way.

Basic Drafting (1 semester)

This class will offer students the opportunity to  learn the skills necessary to develop basic mechanical and architectural drawings, utilizing manual drafting equipment and computer-aided design programs.  Students will learn to use basic drafting equipment, proper use of line-weights and line-types, how to create drawing to scale, and how to correctly add text and dimensioning to drawings.

Career Explorations in Design (1 Semester)

This class will offer students the opportunity to explore multiple career options that utilize design and computer-aided drafting.  Through a variety of option- videos, field trips, guest speakers, hands-on activities and computer software usage- students will be exposed to the educational and career opportunities offered in the fields of:

-Architecture

-Interior Design

-Landscape Design

-Computer Animation

-Civil Engineering

-CNC Machining (Machine Tool)

-GIS/Mapping

-Graphic Design

Architecture

This course introduces students to the basics of residential and commercial design.  Students will be trained in all aspects of architecture, from the history of architecture, to understanding styles, to site selection, to room layout, to plan development.  They will also learn kitchen/bath layout, and roof development.  Students will participate in the development of plans for suture houses to be built by the building construction program.

Animation in Design

Learn to create walk-throughs and fly-by's for project presentations.  After learning to develop models, create and apply materials and shadows, utilize lofting, lighting, rendering and animation techniques, students will apply these skills to projects of multiple skills levels.  Students will participate in developing projects focused on Interior, Architectural, and Landscaping Design, along with basic character and object creation.
