Bath Elementary PTA Mission Statement
The Bath Elementary PTA endorses the three-fold mission of the National PTA.
National PTA
Mission
The mission of the National PTA is three-fold:
1. To support and speak on behalf of children and youth in the schools, in the community and before governmental bodies and other organizations that make decisions affecting children;
2. To assist parents in developing the skills they need to raise and protect their children;
3. To encourage parent and public involvement in the public schools of this nation.
Three important components of the Bath Elementary PTA are: student advocacy, school, teacher, and classroom support, and community enrichment.
Six National Standards for Parent/Family Involvement Programs
Standard I:
Communicating
Communication between home and school is regular, two-way, and
meaningful.
School and teacher/classroom support: assistance as needed and appropriate
Standard II:
Parenting
Parenting skills are promoted and supported.
Community enrichment: family events
Student advocacy: suggestions and venues to involve parents in student learning, such as the read-a-thon, TV turn off week.
Standard III:
Student Learning
Parents play an integral role in assisting student learning.
School and teacher/classroom support: volunteering, Curriculum Enrichment Program, fulfillment of individual teachers’ requests; fundraising to support these endeavors.
Student advocacy: resources, such as the National PTA website, and a cadre of parents and teachers available to give suggestions to parents looking for ideas to help their child.
Standard IV:
Volunteering
Parents are welcome in the school, and their support and assistance are
sought.
School and teacher/classroom support: Read With Me program, recurring and regular volunteer roles
Student advocacy: more adults available as mentors and models
Standard V:
School Decision Making & Advocacy
Parents are full partners in the decisions that affect children and
families.
Community enrichment: participation of parents at School Board and City Council Meetings; PTA is called upon to suggest parents for Board Subcommittee work.
Student advocacy: Individual members speaking for students who may not yet have a voice; presenting information for consideration, etc.
Standard VI:
Collaborating with Community
Community resources are used to strengthen schools, families, and
student learning.
Community enrichment: Halloween/Monster Mash party, TV turn-off week, Auction
