I am teaching All-Day Kindergarten. I am amazed and delighted at how quickly the children are learning our classroom routines as well as the names of new friends. This Kindergarten year is a time for working on developing self confidence, learning social group skills, and learning early literacy and math concepts. We work with poems, songs, stories, the children's own drawings and writings. I model how I both read and write to show how it is done. For math skills, we use the daily calendar and lots of manipulatives to understand numerals and their numberness. I love to read stories aloud, and by the end of a whole day, I find the children are very willing listeners.
