Great links to projects for your class to try!

Ethnokids is a website based in France that receives submissions from schools around the world in French. Submissions about your school, homes and other topics of interest may be submitted in English, also, but will be translated then into French for the website.

Letterboxing is a form of treasure hunt that involves hiding and searching for boxes around the world. Clues to where to find them are posted on websites.

Geocaching is related to letterboxing and sometimes is used to locate letterboxes. This involves hiding some "treasure" and posting the coordinates for its location. A GPS is used to write the clues and to locate the "treasures".

Story Train is a collaborative stories project. Students may add to stories or start new stories. Submissions are read before they are published. Good reading and writing reinforcement for elementary level.

The Poetry Zone is a place for students to submit their original poetry for consideration for publishing on this website.

ThinkQuest offers international web page making contests for two levels: grades 4-6 and ages 12-19.

Owney, CA and Owney, ME Students learn about the United States by mailing Owney the Traveling Dog and receiving postcards from other schools.

Diddl the Mouse will come to visit your classroom from Germany. He's traveling all around the world. This is an email contact.

Global Goodwill is a Holiday Project from Scholastic in which classes may participate by sending information about holidays. An online certificate for students may be printed up at the conclusion.

Find Mr. Moulton Classes can sign up to be included on Mr. Moulton's email list. When he travels he will send your class clues to his location, including the latitude and longitude taken with his GPS. There is no web site for the project, just an email contact for your class to use.

Boomerang Box is a traveling cargo box that your class can keep tabs on as it travels the globe loading and unloading cargo in different ports.

Shake the World is a project that helps students in East Timor by having classes send them a package containing pens, pencils, an eraser and colored pencils.

W.ide W.onderful W.orld Host and/or exchange a stuffed bear, write in its online journal, submit information about your area for posting on the web site.

Kidlink offers many projects including Grandmother and Me, a multi-lingual, long term project about grandmothers around the world and the Multicultural Recipe Book, a student submitted collection of personal family recipes and cultural information from around the world. Students must register with KidLink to participate in these projects.

The WebQuest Page has links to lots and lots of quests covering many disciplines and grade levels.

Postcards Around the Globe is based in Australia. Sign up to send commercial or student designed postcards to countries around the globe.

Global Schoolhouse Newsday Project has students writing articles and posting them on the Internet. They read and choose articles from other schools to include in their own newspaper.  New session registration is March 2002.

Classroom Pet Exchange involves individual classrooms signing up to exchange a toy with another class. Journals are kept and teachers have the ability to set up the timeframe and activities that they choose.

Flat Stanley Project is based on the book, Flat Stanley, by Jeff Brown. Students make a paper Flat Stanley and mail it and a blank journal, to a participating school.  The visiting Stanley is treated as a guest and is taken places.  When Stanley is mailed back, he has a completed journal, photographs, post cards, and souvenirs.

Friends and Flags has classes sending packages of souvenirs to five participating countries. Lots of other activities to go with the projects.

Geo-Mystery Project posts clues to your location sent in by the class: pictures, latitude and longitude, and written descriptions. Read clues and guess where other schools are located. Contact them by email to see if you are correct.

Monster Exchange pairs classrooms from a variety of schools worldwide to design an original picture of a monster. Geared to k-8.

The Great Debate Project is registered through SchoolWorld. Debates are conducted on-line and posted to email that is published on the web page. This is aimed at Grades 6 through 12.

Poet's Corner allows students to express themselves creatively through the writing of poetry. Poem formats are changed approximately every four weeks.

Project Atmosphere Australia Online has weather activities, projects, games, and puzzles. Get a weather partner and exchange information about your area or put a link to your weather page on the site.

Postcard Geography is for all ages. Schools send commercial, homemade or email postcards to participating schools around the globe. Online chat is conducted to solve a "Mystery Class" game.

World Weather Watch Exchange is an international project that shares weather information across climate zones. Predict, track and research global weather.

Signs of Autumn-Signs of Spring has students involved in the study of seasonal changes around the world. Students will observe, share and compare the changing seasons for five consecutive weeks with other classes around the world.

The SchoolWorld Zoo Adoption Center allows schools to adopt an animal in a zoo for a year. With payment, receive a certificate, pictures of the animal and other information about your adopted animal.

The Investigators project makes students private investigators. Students research the topic, and write up a report, adding some fiction to their account, and then e-mail it to the "Big Boss". Geared to grades 3 - 6.

Expeditions currently has the online expedition of Mick Bird as he rows around the world. Read his online journal, keep track of his journey through his website, and communicate by email with the explorer. Completed expedition records by other explorers are maintained also.

SchoolWorld World Series Challenge, for grades 4-12, is a general knowledge question and answer competition combined with a baseball theme. Each week, teams compete against other teams. Create your own team names, logos, mascots, cheering squads, and team colours just like a baseball team.

The GLOBE Program requires teachers to receive training in GLOBE to be able to submit data and receive materials. Students create hypotheses, analyze data, draw conclusions and report results on which others may build.
