Shadow Experiment

We wanted to know if our shadow would change or not.

J.H. is tracing a classmates shadow at 11:05 in the morning.

J.H. is tracing her shadow in the afternoon at 1:55.

These are the two shadows. They show the way the shadows move around. In the afternoon the shadows are opposite because the sun changes places.

One girl is drawing the other girl in the morning.

They are looking for the shadow in the afternoon. It is not there because the SUN is on the other side of the building.

J.D. is tracing A.K's shadow in the morning on the basketball court.

The tree is blocking the sun so we can't see A.K.'s shadow in the afternoon.

These student's shadows are also being blocked by tree's shadow.

M.G.'s shadow went into the grass, because she was too close to the grass in the morning. We couldn't trace it in the grass in the afternoon.

We learned that you need light to get a shadow. Outside you need the sun without something blocking it or in front of it.

To draw a shadow, it has to be on tar, concrete or something hard.

The sun moves during the day and makes the shadow change directions. The shadow is bigger in the morning and late afternoon. It is smallest around noon.
