The Trip to SUPSHIP

These are the volunteer's from the Navy, who came to tell us what they do in the Navy. They also walked down to SUPSHIP with us to keep us safe.

This the first room we visited. We are hearing about our tour. We are going to test ships that we design. Mrs. Spivey's and Mr. Watson's Second Grade came with us.

These are the things we use to test our ships. We have a fan for wind and a snow sled with water in it.

This paper shows the directions for planning and making a ship. It is called designing.

We are making our ships.

Somebody is putting their boat in the water.

This is a boat that someone made. We tested them in the water with a fan. We had to get the boat from one end of the sled to the other end of the sled.

This boat is trying the same thing. It is half way there, but it didn't last that long. It went to the side and it sank.

We had to build the ship again and test the ship again. That way we got them so they could go down the water sled.
It takes a lot of work to design ships
THE MOVIE IS 912K

It shows how we fixed our boats to make them sail better.

The wind made by the fan pushed against the sail and made the boat move. The shape of the sail and the way the sails were on the boat made it go straight down the sled or not.

This is how we get in the computer room. the computers in here do not look like the ones at school. We have to be checked in and checked out.

This is room where we are doing payrolls. We are seeing how much money it would take to pay some people. We are add the payroll up on adding machines.

This man is telling us about his job. We are listening to the man tell us what to do in making a contract.

This is a contract about money. If you give someone a red bike, in return you said you wanted that person to give you money.

This lady is showing us some different kinds of graphs that they use at SUPSHIP.

These kids are sorting M&Ms for a graph. Groups were given a package of M&Ms to sort into colors. It is like how they estimate at SUPSHIP.

They are counting the M&Ms and coloring the graph to show how many there are of each color in the package they opened.

A student is taking her graph to the graph that was there to see which had more of each color. At SUPSHIP this helps them decide how much things for ships will cost.

We had a great visit at SUPSHIP. We learned a lot about designing ships. We also learned a lot about money and contracts and estimating.

Thank you for letting us visit SUPSHIP.
