The Science Field Trip.

We recently visited the Hamilton Sanctuary - Foster Point Road, West Bath.  http://www.maineaudubon.org/eoth.htm

This filed trip was part of our science curriculum. This field trip meets many of the State of Maine Learning Results.   http://janus.state.me.us/education/lres/st.htm

Thank you parents for being and SUPSHIP Bath for providing chaperones!

Pictures from our filed trip and students' science observations follow:

Our Science Field Trip

I saw trees all over .  I saw woods and flowers and moss.  The wood are full trees and pines.

Something interesting I saw was a yellow mushroom on the ground.  I saw an Indian Paintbrush. It was the first time in my life to see it. We did not pick it because it is endangered. Endangered means that something is almost wiped off the face of the earth.

I saw a lot of dead trees at the beginning of the trail. I saw some flowers, ferns, and moss on the blue trail and the red trail.

Something interesting I saw was a hole in the tree. I think it was an owl hole and a I think it was a squirrel hole.  I saw a moth, and two caterpillars, and a beetle.

I saw moss. I saw a lot of moss. I said, "WOW!" I saw lots of trees. I had fun. I saw lots of leaves.  I saw the plants in the woods. The woods are lots and lots of trees. There is white bark and brown bark.  There is a marsh. We couldn't step in the marsh.   I saw a lot of ferns.

I saw salt marsh grass and pine trees.  On the bus I saw the New Meadows River.

The plants are under the foot bridge and some are tall and some are small.

I saw an interesting log. It had Indian writing on it.  It was different, a lot different than we write.  I saw a black mushroom.  I saw a striper fish jumping out and in the water.  In winter, the ice was freezing the trees and they were falling down. Some of the trees were alive.  Some were not alive.  I saw a squirrel jumping tree to tree.  The squirrel looked like it was flying.  I saw a snake hole in the ground.  There was alive moss and dead moss.

I saw flowers in the pines. It was one of the first things I saw.  I saw white flowers and purple flowers on the red trail.  I saw a crab shell that was dead.  I saw green stuff growing on a branch.  I saw lots of trees and ferns.  Some of the trees I saw were all brown with lots of branches sticking out of them.  And the ferns had red dots behind them.  Some of it was all green.  I saw lots of holes in the same area that moles made in the moss.  I saw flowers growing on a tree laying down.

Trees are plants and when lots of trees are gathered around it makes woods.

I saw grass growing everywhere.  I saw moss that was soft and fuzzy.  I saw moss growing on trees.  I saw a feather, one side was black and blue stripes and the other was all black.

I saw on the other side of a leaf and it had little dots on it and we didn't know what it was and so we had to bring it back to school so we could figure out what it was and we figured it out.
