Dare at Fisher Mitchell School began in January.
One of our first lessons was called Considering Consequences. During
this less, we decided what the positive and negative consequences
were for using drugs, tobacco, or other types of drugs.
Next we learned about the different types of peer pressure. There are
at least four types of peer pressure. they are Friendly peer
pressure, teasing peer pressure, Indirect peer pressure and heavy peer
pressure.
There are many ways to say No!
1. Saying no thanks.
2. Giving an excuse or reason.
3. Repeated refusal.
4. Walking away.
5. Changing the subject.
6. Avoiding the situation.
7. Cold Shoulder.
8. Strength in numbers.
One of the next things we learned was that many people who use drugs
have a low opinion of themselves. If you have high self esteem, you
fell good about yourself and will be less likely to use drugs.

Currently we are role playing different techniques we can use if we
are ever in a situation where we are being asked to try something or
do something that we really do not want to do.
We have learned during the role-playing situations that there are
several response styles. There is the unsure or passive style, there
is the demanding or aggressive response style, and finally the
confident or assertive style.
Officer Robert Savary comes to our classrooms each week to teach the
Dare lessons.
Recently, he organized a ski trip to Sugarloaf. The goal of the trip
is to help us discover that there are many other thing o do
besides DRUGS.
