HOMEWORK
The homework we give is meant to reinforce and
enrich the concepts that are taught in school each day. Homework is
valuable in that it helps your child establish independent study
habits and self-discipline.
As a parent it is important to take an active role
in your child's school work. Show and interest in what your child
does and work with him/her to make this a successful year
Here are just a few suggestions.
- Allow your child to unwind and play right
after school. Then they will be more willing to sit down and
complete the assignment.
- Provide a quiet comfortable place for your
child to do his/her work. Get your child in the habit of doing the
work away from the distraction of television or toys.
- Show an interest in the work. Talk about the
events of the day. Try to get beyond the "nothing" and "don't
know" responses that are so common with this age.
- Make it clear that the homework is their
responsibility. However make it clear that you are willing to help
if necessary.
- Ask to see the work when it is completed.
Consider yourself a consultant and offer helpful hints for a
quality piece.
Homework Guidelines
Map Of The Week
- Each week there will be a map.
- Information on the back needs to be printed on
the map neatly in appropriate place.
- Coloring around boundaries helps to define
them, (colored pencils work best).
- Student's name needs to be on the map in the
upper right hand corner.
Problem Of The Week
- This is to help your child to work on
strategies in math.
- They will get some examples of strategies at
school.
- If you cannot see the strategy, do not worry,
we just want the students to try. We understand all students will
not be successful.
- Most important of all is that we want your
child to write about the process they use to solve the problem;
this is the key we are looking for.
- We process the information on
Friday.
Extra Math Skills Paper
- This is a paper reinforcing a skill we are
currently working on in the classroom. Please let your child work
independently on it; then you can check it.
Additional Language Arts Skill
Paper
- This paper will also reinforce some skill
which has been recently taught.
Supplemental Reading
- Your child should read 20 minutes each
night.
- Parents should sign reading slip. This is a
check for us.
Other Homework
- Book Reports are assigned at the beginning of
each month and are due at the end of the month. You will receive
notice of these dates.
- Practice spelling words when
appropriate.
- Review and practice math facts.
ALL ITEMS IN FOLDER ARE TO BE COMPLETED AND
PASSED IN BY FRIDAY
