My name is Susan Hartford and I have been a physical educator in Bath elementary schools for many years.
Physical fitness is an important component of each class. Activities allow students to work on improving strength, flexibility, balance, agility, speed, and endurance. Students work in large groups, small groups, and individually in order to hone their skills. The use of various types of balls, ropes, nets, and mats provides them with an opportunity to become familiar with the equipment and to start to develop their skill competencies.
Families, as well as the schools, are important in modeling the desire for life long learning, improved fitness levels, healthy life styles, and personal well being. Be part of the movement education by taking your child for a walk or helping him/her learn to skate, swim, sled, ski, dance, or whatever else your family finds enjoyable.
