How to catch Lobsters

A woman from the Museum is telling us about lobster traps. The lady showed us different kinds of traps and how to catch a lobster. There are two different kinds of traps, a wooden trap and a wire trap.

You put bait in the trap and put the trap in the water. She told us the lobster would go into the trap to get the bait, but couldn't get out because it was too hard.

Baby lobsters can get out of the trap through a little slot made for them. The big lobsters can't get out. The baby lobsters get a free meal.

The lady from the museum showed us the buoys and then passed them around. The heavier one was the wooden one. The plastic and foam one was lighter. They are used to tell you where your traps are. Each buoy has a number. The wooden one had branded numbers. The plastic and foam was painted with paint that would not come off.

The lady is teaching us how to put the rubber band on the lobster claw so the lobster won't pinch us.

This girl is measuring the lobster with a special tool. The tool goes in the lobsters eye socket but not his eye. It measure the the body to right before the tail. If the lobster fit inside the tool then he is too small and you have to throw them back.

If you turn the lobster over and they have eggs in their tail you have to throw them back too.
