Fisher Mitchell School

Studies Shapes and Sizes

at the

Maine Maritime Museum

in November

We did the jobs of boat builders.

We bent wood to change its shape. Bent wood was used to make boats and ships. We drilled holes in wood.

We made wood smoother by using a plane.

We studied the shapes in boats.

Lots of shapes are used in boats, like straight lines, circles, rectangles, squares, triangles, ovals and spirals.

We measured the size of the Wyoming. It was 329 and one half feet long. The Sherman Zwicker was much shorter.

We made lines.

Everybody made some squares.

We compared the sizes of the boats. The Zwicker is a medium sized boat.

This is a fishing boat. It is smaller than the Sherman Zwicker.
