Nancy Rogers
Reading time.

Our house keeping corner.

I am teaching a session of All-Day Kindergarten. I am amazed and delighted at how quickly the children are learning our classroom routines as well as the names of new friends. This Kindergarten year is a time for working on developing self confidence, learning social group skills, and learning early literacy and math concepts. We work with poems, songs, stories, the children's own drawings and writings. I model how I both read and write to show how it is done. For math skills, we use the daily calendar and lots of manipulatives to understand numerals and their numberness. I love to read stories aloud, and by the end of a whole day, I find the children are very willing listeners.

The block area presents opportunity for the children to work with mathematical concepts of design and proportion, as well as use their artistic sense.
